From fairy tale to teacup: Teministeriet launches the Inspired by H.C. Andersen Collection

June 10, 2026

With the Inspired by H.C. Andersen Collection, Teministeriet brings together Danish cultural heritage, craftsmanship, and storytelling in four unique tea experiences, developed and designed entirely in-house.

From a dining table idea to a finished collection

The enduring appeal of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales lies in their ability to evoke emotions, spark imagination, and create a sense of familiarity across generations. This very idea became the foundation for Teministeriet’s new Inspired by H.C. Andersen Collection, launching in August 2026.

The collection features four tea blends inspired by some of Denmark’s most beloved stories: The Little Mermaid, The Ugly Duckling, The Steadfast Tin Soldier, and The Emperor’s New Clothes. H.C. Andersen’s fairy tales are among the most renowned works of Danish culture worldwide and continue to be read across generations and borders.

Although the inspiration stems from some of Denmark’s most iconic stories, the journey behind the collection began elsewhere - at home around the dining table. The idea emerged when an illustration of a fairy tale train, created by Witt Denmark A/S’ in-house architect, caught the attention of Christina Vang Hansen. As Sales & Product Manager at Teministeriet, she immediately saw the potential to create an entire universe inspired by H.C. Andersen’s stories.

“H.C. Andersen’s stories are an important part of Danish cultural heritage and something many people have a relationship with from childhood. With this collection, we wanted to interpret the stories through flavour and create an experience where they can be enjoyed in a new way - without losing the atmosphere and familiarity that make them so special,” says Christina Vang Hansen.

The first sketches were drawn at the dining table together with her children, where imagination was allowed to run free. The illustrations were later refined in close collaboration with the marketing department, resulting in a complete collection with its own flavour profiles, illustrations, and packaging design.

Four fairy tales interpreted through flavour

Each tea in the collection has been developed to reflect the atmosphere and narrative of a classic H.C. Andersen fairy tale. The goal has been to create flavour experiences that mirror the emotions and worlds evoked by the stories.

  • The Ugly Duckling is a smooth and elegant green tea with sweet notes of raspberry, complemented by delicate hints of vanilla and rose. Light, fruity, and well-balanced with a gentle floral finish, it reflects the story of transformation, courage, and the beauty of finding one’s own path.
  • The Little Mermaid is a bright and delicate white tea where fresh lemongrass meets subtle notes of lychee, apricot, and a touch of elderflower. A light and almost ethereal flavour experience inspired by a story of longing, sacrifice, and love across worlds.
  • The Steadfast Tin Soldier is a characterful herbal tea with spicy notes of ginger and black pepper, balanced by fresh lemongrass and cooling peppermint. Naturally sweet, lively, and invigorating with a refreshing finish – a flavour with the same unwavering character as the tale’s courageous protagonist.
  • The Emperor’s New Clothes is a classic black tea with elegant citrus notes of orange and bergamot. The full-bodied tea creates a well-balanced flavour experience with both freshness and character, inspired by a story of vanity, illusion, and the courage to speak the truth.

These four stories were chosen because they continue to resonate with both children and adults around the world. At the same time, the combination of green tea, white tea, herbal tea, and black tea gives the collection a broad appeal, ensuring there is something for every taste.

Danish cultural heritage interpreted through flavour

With the Inspired by H.C. Andersen Collection, Teministeriet aims not only to launch new products but also to offer a fresh interpretation of an important part of Danish cultural heritage. The collection is created for life’s small pauses - moments with a cup of tea in hand, where there is room for reflection, creativity, and contemplation, and where a cup of tea can become the beginning of a small adventure.

The visual universe draws inspiration from classic fairy tale books and their atmospheric illustrations, while the flavour universe transforms the moods of the stories into tangible sensory experiences. Each tea tin serves as a story in itself, designed to be enjoyed, gifted, and kept as a special memento.

“H.C. Andersen’s stories have inspired generations around the world. We wanted to create a new way of experiencing them, where flavour, illustrations, and storytelling go hand in hand. This is our interpretation of stories that still speak to both children and adults today,” says Christina Vang Hansen.
